Three Decades of Sericulture Excellence
Dr. Chandrakant Bhimrao Latpate is a distinguished sericulture scientist and educationist at Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth (VNMKV), Parbhani — one of Maharashtra's premier agricultural universities. With a career spanning over three decades, he has made enduring contributions to sericulture research, extension, and education in the Marathwada region.
After completing his M.Sc. (Agriculture) in Entomology in 1987 and Ph.D. in Entomology in 1997 — both from VNMKV Parbhani — Dr. Latpate has dedicated his professional life to understanding and advancing silk production science in Maharashtra. His research focus has consistently been on silkworm hybrid evaluation, mulberry cultivation, and farmer-level technology transfer.
With 24 years of research, 15 years of teaching, and 34 published research articles, Dr. Latpate has built a comprehensive academic portfolio that bridges laboratory science with field-level impact. His recommendation of the double cross hybrid (CSR2×CSR27)×(CSR6×CSR26) for Maharashtra's sericulture industry demonstrates his commitment to practical, farmer-oriented science.
“Sericulture is not just an industry — it is a bridge between science and the livelihood of thousands of farmers.”
